2005 Rheingau Riesling

Baron Knyphausen Kiedricher Sandgrub Riesling Auslese from the celebrated Rheingau region is a stunning example of a German white wine. This vintage, crafted from exceptional Riesling grapes, showcases a full-bodied profile that envelops the palate with delightful richness. The wine exhibits a high acidity that brings a bright and refreshing quality, perfectly balancing its prominent fruit intensity, which bursts with ripe stone fruits and hints of honey. Its sweetness leans toward off-dry, providing just enough residual sugar to enhance the overall flavor experience without overwhelming the senses. The smoothness of the wine is complemented by an elegant finesse, making it a truly captivating choice for any occasion. Enjoy this lovely Auslese alongside spicy Asian cuisine or as an indulgent dessert pairing, and savor the complexity it brings from its esteemed terroir.

Region:

Rheingau

Germany's most famous wine region, the small but mighty Rheingau has built its stellar reputation on its delightfully dry Riesling. Thanks to the south-facing aspect of the Rhine Valley's slopes here—plus the shelter provided by the Taunus hills—the Rheingau's vineyards enjoy a unique mesoclimate that helps grapes ripen perfectly. As a result, these medium- to full-bodied white wines often display satisfying flavors of ripe peach. Fans of red wine should also look out for its Pinot Noir (known locally as Spätburgunder), which usually comes from vineyards near the village of Assmannhausen.
